We recently heard from Petra Thombs, author of the successfully Faithify-ed project, “Ramapough Lenape Art & Literacy Lab, After School Program” which raised $625 (a whopping 156% of the goal!) Here’s how the project is progressing:
Our program went well, as we were able to serve a dozen youth for eight sessions. We had to arrange transportation. We were able to learn about the tribal seal, which is our medicine wheel, current Lenape history, creation myths, plant an herb garden and create wonderful drawings based on our understanding of the medicine wheel and our spirit animals. We celebrated with a pizza party and certificates with Chief Perry. Our community is located in many different areas, even across state lines. Lenapehoking, or the ancestral lands of the Lenape, predate the US, and therefore New York and New Jersey. We also offered a truncated summer program, Summer Tuesdays in July.
I am now the Director of the Center and hope to bring more funding and programming to the Ramapough. Thank you for all of your help in getting this going.
Blessings going forward,
