We recently heard from, the producers of the successfully Faithify-ed project, “Open FirstSteps Re-entry House for People Returning Home From Prison to Champaign Co, Illinois.” Here’s how the project has been progressing:

“The FirstSteps Community House is open! Their first resident came to live at FirstSteps House just before Christmas. He is taking driving lessons so that he can pass his driver’s test and get his license, and is focused on finding employment.

FirstFollowers, the founders of the FirstSteps House, presented UUCUC with a plaque reading, “We thank the UU Church of Urbana-Champaign for their contributions to furnishing this room, and their support of FirstFollowers.”  It will hang next to one of the rooms at FirstSteps House. The funds we raised through our Faithify campaign are being put to good use in the startup of the house.  People leaving incarceration and who are a good fit for the program at FirstSteps, will have a place to live and the support to help them make the transition to the community. UUCUC was pleased to be part of the community effort to support this important project, and gratified by the support we received from members of other UU congregations in Springfield and Evanston, Illinois and Ames, Iowa, as well as the MidAmerica Region of the UUA.”
