How do I start a campaign?

Anyone that meets our campaign owner requirements is eligible to launch a campaign on Faithify .

After registering or logging in, just use the “Create Project” tab on the right of your Dashboard menu. Make sure to read the Quick Start Help text  or watch the Quick Start Help video first!!

You can find tips on structuring and running your campaign by signing up for Faithify University, our free online crowdfunding course. Meanwhile, feel free to save your campaign as a draft and return to finish it up or submit it for review at a later date.

Can I download the Faithify logo?

Yes! The Resources page has versions of the Faithify logo and other assets for campaign owners, funders, and members of the press to download.

Can Faithify be used to fund anything?

Faithify supports Unitarian Universalist ministry projects which we define as projects that claim Unitarian Universalism, are claimed by it, and are intuitive and accountable for donors.
Projects claim Unitarian Universalism by:

  • being invested in and drawing from UU history and tradition
  • collaborating across age, sexuality, racial/ethnic, and economic divisions
  • reflecting UU values
  • originating from UU people, congregations, and communities

Projects are claimed by Unitarian Universalism by being in active and explicit covenant with the larger community of Unitarian Universalism in, beyond, or between congregations. For example,

  • originating in or being affiliated with a UU congregation or community
  • working in partnership with UU leaders, congregations, or communities

Intuitive and accountable means that:

  • The average donor can read your campaign and have a reasonable degree of certainty what you are proposing to do
  • The funds have a high likelihood of being able to be used as described.
  • If you are raising funds for another organization, they know about the campaign and are supportive.

Our staff does a quick review of projects before they launch to ensure they fit this criteria.

Who can use Faithify ?

Faithify is open to donors all over the world who have internationally-recognized credit cards. Campaign owners, however, must be based in one of Stripe’s countries of operation. See if your country is currently supported on Stripe’s website.

Can I run more than one campaign at once?

Yes, but having multiple live campaigns can confuse funders and split support. Running a campaign is a lot of work, and more than one live campaign will likely dilute your attention and energy. If you’re a first-time campaign owner and have multiple campaign ideas, we recommend selecting the one that’s most developed and trying that first.

I’m collaborating on my campaign with others. Can we all be listed as the campaign owner?

Each campaign is linked to a single Faithify account, but you can list the members of your team in your campagin’s Long Description or UU Connection description, which will show on your campaign page.

Are donations made via Faithify tax deductible?

Not necessarily.
If the campaign owner is a recognized nonprofit organization, all the names on all accounts (including the Faithify account, Stripe account, and bank and credit card accounts) must be in the organization’s name. If you’re not running the campaign as a nonprofit, but instead working with a nonprofit fiscal sponsor, be sure that the Stripe account (used to receive Faithify funds) is set up by the nonprofit. If your Stripe account is registered by a confirmed nonprofit organization, you may have the ability to offer full or partial tax deductions to donors. You should consult with a tax accountant or attorney before making a determination as to the tax deductibility of your project.
Please note that Faithify makes no claims about the tax deductibility of donations made via the site.

How do I include images or other media in my campaign description?

You can include photos and images in your campaign description by uploading them from your computer using the “Add Media” button on the campaign proposal page. Photos and images must be 128MB or less and one of the following file types: JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP. The featured image must be landscape orientation.
You can also embed videos and audio in your project description and updates (e.g., from Youtube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Flickr, etc.). However, you cannot embed your main project video; you must link to the original video file from an external source (like YouTube or Vimeo).

How long does a campaign remain on Faithify ?

Forever! Campaigns remain on our site for reference and transparency in our Archives.
For the same reasons, campaigns cannot be deleted, even if they were unsuccessful. Please note that deleting your Faithify account will not delete your campaign.

Can I use copyrighted material as part of my campaign?

Don’t use music, images, video, or other content that you don’t have the rights to. Using copyrighted material is almost always against the law and can lead to expensive lawsuits down the road. Doing so also violates Faithify’s terms of use.

Is a Stripe account required to launch a campaign?

Yes. You must link a Stripe account to your Faithify account before your campaign will be published on the site.

What should I work on before posting my campaign?

You should:
— Make a detailed budget of your costs. Use this to set your funding goal.
— Look closely at other Faithify campaigns.
— Brainstorm with friends about how to talk about your campaign and other ideas.
— Have a plan for spreading the word about your campaign. You must activate your networks in order to succeed. It’s also a good idea to consider securing a lead donor ahead of time.

Running a campaign is a lot of fun and a lot of work. Make sure you’re ready before you post!

What is the maximum campaign duration?

Campaigns on Faithify can last anywhere from 15, 30, 45, or 60 days. Other crowdfunding sites have revealed their research and they have found that campaigns lasting any longer are rarely successful. We recommend that campaign deadlines are set at 30 days or less. Shorter durations have higher success rates, and will create a helpful sense of urgency around your campaign.

Is a video required to launch? How do I make a good one?

Videos are not required to launch, but crowdfunding campaigns with a video succeed at a much higher rate, and they also raise more money. So we highly recommend that you include one!

Can campaigns raise more than their goal?

Yes. Campaigns remain live on Faithify until their funding deadline. That means it’s entirely possible for a project to overshoot its goal. In that case, the project owner receives all of the additional funds.

Can funding be cancelled?

If you are a donor who has made a pledge but want to cancel that pledge before the project campaign period has ended, you can do so by contacting us.
If you are a donor who has made a donation and the campaign period has ended, you can reach out to the project owner to inquire about a refund.
If you are a campaign owner you cannot cancel your campaign once you have posted to Faithify.
