Full Description of Project

This year, UU Society of Bangor teens will again participate in Mid-Maine YoUUth project and trip, with others from congregations in Rockland, Ellsworth, Belfast, and Augusta. Reverend Drew Moeller is the youth sponsor for this event. The project is focusing on Refugees and the Global Migration Crisis, in collaboration with the Unitarian Universalist Office at the United Nations. Since October, teens and sponsors have been gathering monthly in Belfast to learn about this issue, as well as fundraising. Together the group is participating in the 2018 Intergenerational Spring Seminar, hosted by the UUA UN office in New York City, from April 4th to April 7th. *More about the intergenerational seminar is below.

So far, teens Franny Wilson-Charuk, Zoë Iobst and Simone Grosswiler (photo) have raised nearly $300 from bake sales at fellowship hour and open mic coffeehouses. Money from this Faithify campaign will be used to partially cover registration and travel expenses to make the trip accessible for the adult sponsors and youth attendees.

*This year the seminar title is “When Crisis Calls: Advancing Just Migration for All. Past intergenerational seminars by the UUA UN office have focused on disarmament, climate change, empowering women, and other topics of international justice. The UU United Nations Office Intergenerational Seminar “is an opportunity to collaborate with others while learning how to be a global activist. Through workshops, peer and expert-led panel discussions, community building activities, and worship services, participants undergo a transformative process of learning, reflection, and growth as we explore some of the most challenging issues facing humanity today.”
