Send Community Church of Santa Monica Youth to United Nations UU Office Seminar 2018

Project Owner: UU Community Church of Santa Monica
Short Description of Project
Unitarian Universalist Commmunity Church of Santa Monica Youth to attend the UU United National Office Spring Seminar 2018 in New York
How was this project connected to UU?
This project claims Unitarian Universalism by putting our principles in action. Our youth will be learning about the plight of migrant populations around the world. They will collaborate on a statement of action that will be presented to the United Nations and come away with information that they will share with the congregation when they return. The Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office (UU-UNO) is partnering with the UU College of Social Justice on this event. Programming will be interactive, encouraging participants to reflect on how the topics addressed affect them in their lives, their spirituality, and how they are called to respond. Moving from ideas to concrete action, participants will learn tools and skills to help them with future collaboration and activism. Each person will participate in an intergenerational Collaboration Group, touching base periodically throughout the seminar to reflect on and process the issues discussed.
Full Description of Project
We would like to send six (6) youth and two (2) adult chaperones to New York City to attend the UU United Nations Office (UNO) Spring Seminar this April 4th-8th. This year’s theme is: When Crisis Calls: Advancing Just Migration For All. There will be workshops, peer and expert-led panel discussions, community building activities, and worship services. The youth undergo a transformative process of learning, reflection, and growth as they explore some of the most challenging issues facing the world today.
