Short Description of Project
Help fund the celebration for the Ordination of Laura Thompson
How was this project connected to UU?
Within Unitarian Universalism it is the congregation which holds the privilege of ordaining ministers. Minnesota Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship recognizes that Laura has completed all of the necessary requirements by the Ministerial Fellowship Committee and having served as minister to MVUUF since September 2016, we responsibly and joyfully have voted to ordain her as a Unitarian Universalist minister.

Becoming a Minister
Becoming a minister is something that is a process rather than an event. Though ordination acknowledges and recognizes the journey that Laura has taken to get here, the journey does not start or end here. Nor is the journey contained by the church, those it serves or its governance. This is a broader journey than that. This is a journey that has included all of you.
Maybe you knew and nurtured Laura as a child or you are part of her family. Perhaps you are a friend who has shared joy and sorrow with with her and she with you. You might have known her as a chef, as someone who worked with folks with developmental disabilities, as a college student or seminarian, or as a colleague. You may have taught her, challenged her or supported her on her journey. Whatever your role in Laura's life, you are a part of her "becoming" and you always will be.
Within the Unitarian Universalist tradition, the honor of ordaining a minister is held by the congregation which, in our governance, holds the highest decision making power. It's about community. It's about relationships. You are a part of Laura's community. She wouldn't be here without all of you.
Laura has served as the minister at MVUUF since September 2016. We have recognized in her the skills, integrity and leadership necessary to confer upon her the title of Reverend. The honor to ordain her is a great joy for our congregation. We hope that you see this in Laura as well and will join us in providing wonderful celebration in honor of who she is becoming.
We are grateful for any donations you can make towards this joyful celebration of Laura's ordination and in recognition of all of the love, hard work, hurdles and support she's had on her journey this far.
