Crowdfunding Completed: July 30, 2016

Amount Funded: $3850

Project Owner: Unitarian Universalist Musicians Network

Short Description of Project

The 2016 UU Children’s Choir has received a challenge grant for $3,000, and we need your help to fulfill our fundraising goal! Your support allows us to offer travel scholarships for students in need.

How was this project connected to UU?

The Unitarian Universalist Musicians Network is a professional organization offering support, professional development, networking, and community to anyone involved with UU music programs. This organization sponsors the UU Children’s Choir every three years during their annual conference. The UU Musicians Network is committed to shared ministry with the UU Ministers Association, the Liberal Religious Educators Association, and the Unitarian Universalist Association.
We believe in teaching our Unitarian Universalist values through song. Each piece selected for the students to learn is both musically rigorous and spiritually evocative. They offer a platform for discussing our faith’s principles with our students in a meaningful, connective, and fun way. Students also participate in nightly worship services where their song, UU readings, and discussion help them connect more deeply with UU-ism. As a program of the Unitarian Universalist Musicians Network, the UU Children’s Choir also participates in intergenerational performance and worship experiences. Simply, students spend their week at camp learning, questioning, and singing our Unitarian Universalist faith.

Full Description of Project

The UU Children’s Choir is made up of UU youth ages 9-12 from across the country. They gather together for a summer camp experience where they rehearse with a renowned children’s choir conductor––this year, Emily Ellsworth from the ANIMA Children’s Chorus in Chicago. The students also participate in a service learning experience, perform a benefit concert, and participate in worship services alongside the UU Musicians Network conference.

Since students travel from across the country for this camp, we are committed to providing travel scholarships for students in need. Your gift will ensure that all students who want to participate can do so, no matter their ability to pay.
