Emily and Lisa’s Ordination Support Fund
Crowdfunding Completed: November 29, 2017
Amount Funded: $2205
Project Owner: Emily Bruce
Short Description of Project
We are First U Members Emily Bruce and Lisa Garcia-Sampson and we are both ministers in formation, raising funds for ordination costs.
How was this project connected to UU?
We are both members of the First Unitarian Church of Providence (firstunitarianprov.org) and are pursuing ordination in the UUA. This campaign supports both of our quests to be ordained Unitarian-Universalist ministers and pursue our callings as a congregational minister (Lisa) and interfaith chaplain (Emily).
Full Description of Project
Support Emily & Lisa’s Ministerial Career Assessments
We are two seminarians from First Unitarian Church of Providence seeking ordination as UU ministers. One important step on the path to ministerial fellowship is the career assessment program. This is a comprehensive personal, emotional and psychological assessment to make sure we are able to minister to others in a safe and healthy way.
With good reason, it’s expensive. $1,850 to be exact. The UUA helps to offset the cost with $1,000 grants and encourages us to reach out to our home congregation and our wider UU network to help with the rest.
We are seeking to raise $1,700 to cover the remaining balance for both of our career assessments.
We are deeply grateful for any support you can give us.
Emily & Lisa
Lisa Garcia-Sampson is a third-year seminarian at Boston University’s School of Theology. Emily Bruce is a second-year seminarian at Yale Divinity School. They became friends at First Unitarian in Providence in 2013. At the time, neither was considering seminary! Over the next few years, they both served on First U’s budget drive team and then co-developed young adult programming and two sermons. Somewhere along the way, they both found their call to ministry.
